I'm starting to hear rumblings in the distance about the 25th Amendment and Donald Trump. It has to do with questions and observations about Trump's mental health and stability. Anyone else notice the same thing?

No one ever surrenders power willingly.

There were articles, viral videos, mentions of invoking the 25th by various elected officials, and discussions on 24 hour news channels prior to and during the early stages of the Trump administration. The platforms for this discussion ranges from Breibart to Washington Post to Fox 'news' to MSNBC to the floor of the House of Representatives, to Remarks by Senators, from democrats and republicans. So the talk runs the full gamut, but that's all it is . . . A bunch of talk with no real legs for action.
Yet.
But, give Trump enough rope and he just might hang himself.
It's going to be an interesting 4 years.

Seems far fetched to me.
But, the stuff I've seen in the past year has been pretty unlikely

Just wishful thinking by some at this point.
I have said many times over that Trump is his worst enemy. IF he ever loses the adulation of his faithful, it will be a severe blow to him and his ego.

That ancient curse, Ron: May you live in interesting times.
I'd much rather be bored.

I look at the 25th Amendment stuff as anti-Trump fantasy porn. In reality, the 25th amendment is there in the event a president suffers a stroke or has something happen that leaves him or her incapacitated to perform the duties of the president.
On top of that, the mountain that would need to be climbed to make this happen would be monumental.
Veep Pence and a majority of Trump's cabinet would need to vote to have Trump removed.
But Trump would say he's fit to serve and certainly reinstate himself to the office.
It would then be up to the House and Senate to provide a 2/3rds vote to remove Trump.
Without a doubt, Trump has shown us he has some serious psychological issues. But hasn't shown to this point that he is incapable of carrying out the duties of the presidency, regardless of how poorly he carries those duties out.
Focus on 2018 folks. Work on swinging the pendulum back to the center. Find and support democrats that are focused on jobs, the economy, comprehensive immigration reform, the environment, and long term fiscal responsibility.
Give deference to those republicans, like Ben Sasse and John McCain who are calling out Trump when he makes outrageous statements or putting forth bad policy.
There is no quick fix for Trump. It's going to be a slog to stop his policies and vote him out of office.

As an aside, if you want to see a Hollywood version of how the 25th amendment works, I recommend the season finale of the 4th season of The West Wing.
It's not 100% accurate because in the story line there is no Vice President because he resigned earlier in the season for cheating on his wife and giving away state secrets, meaning President Bartlet had to hand over the Oval Office to the Speaker of the House, (played outstandingly by John Goodman) which can't really happen according to the 25th Amendment.
Anyway, it's a great episdode. Here's a clip

I guess my point in all of this is that if any of your family members ......... kid, parent, aunt, uncle, grandma, or even a good friend, co-worker, or neighbor exhibited such odd, off-the-wall behavior, the responsible and compassionate thing to do would be to have them tested and evaluated by a professional that is trained to diagnose the subject of the concern.
But, hey, if the person is the leader of the political party of your choice, then we'll ignore it or pretend it's an over-reaction because they had a good day yesterday or it's just a phase that will pass.
Of course, the other option is to wait for a crisis and scamble at the last minute to find a solution.

I don't disagree. But you'd have to find an overwhelming majority of the executive and legislative branches to come to the most basic conclusion that the President is exhibiting odd or off-the-wall behavior. And I just don't think the numbers are there.
