US Defense Secretary: We're not in Iraq to seize oil

Has someone told the President?

US Defense Secretary: We're not in Iraq to seize oil

(CNN)Before departing for his first trip to Baghdad as US Defense Secretary, James Mattis told reporters, "We're not in Iraq to seize anybody's oil."

His comments appeared to be a departure from President Donald Trump, who since taking office has made controversial comments about Iraq and its oil.

A day after his inauguration, Trump said about Iraq: "We should have kept the oil. Maybe we'll have another chance." He repeated the comments a few days later in an interview with ABC's David Muir: "We should have taken the oil. You wouldn't have ISIS if we took the oil."

Trump has said the US has spent trillions of dollars fighting ISIS but that the effort could have been avoided if Americans had just co-opted the terrorists' oil supply after the US invasion. Critics have said taking Iraq's oil would have amounted to stealing from civilians and thus been a war crime and a violation of international law.
On Monday, Mattis offered a different perspective from the president.

"All of us in America have generally paid for our gas and oil all along, and I'm sure that we will continue to do so in the future. We're not in Iraq to seize anyone's oil," said Mattis, a retired four-star general.

So, the Trumpers will offer a three stage response.

First the explainers will jump in to tell you what he "really" means.
Secondly, a statement that both being for taking the oil, and not being for keeping the oil are really totally consistent.

Third, an angry response, "How dare the press cover this. You aren't being fair. He deserves a chance,,,,,"

This confusion over what Trump said and what he really meant will be explained away by his re-lie-able staffers like Reince, Kellyanne, and Sean. Their story will be based on the alternate fact that Trump remembers he heard from members of the G.W. Bush administration that we would pay for the Iraq war by utilizing revenues from the sale of Iraqi oil.

So, he was merely repeating something that he remembered hearing from someone, somewhere, sometime.

I think that the Bowling Green Massacre has changed everything.

A quality EVERYONE wants in their President !

He is truly the quintessential "loose cannon"
