Considering that the AARP is usually silent about most legislature issues something has finally awakened this giant.

The AARP is usually engaged in trying to sell us seniors medical insurance plans, car insurance plans, life insurance plans, cellular phone plans, and the like that are offered by their partners that pay them a hefty fee for allowing them to use the AARP logo and say they "are the only plans approved by the AARP".
It's good to see them finally step up and voice their opinion on a subject that actually affects the lives of their members. I wish they would concentrate more on these issues than promoting money making schemes with their commercial partners.

Ditto, Rongone. The AARP was once the stalwart for legislative change for seniors. I don't know what happened about 20 years ago--perhaps the need for money was so great back then to make a change--but selling insurances and the rest is about all we've heard from then since. I never joined and never will because of this and their lack of action on behalf of seniors.

I guess I am not so down on the AARP as flowergirl and Rongone. I do understand that to remain in "business" they must have a stream of revenue. I am SURE the $16/year dues does not come close to covering what they want to do and I look at it as a minimal contribution to a good organization. I agree that they endorse certain organizations to help with their funding. So be it.
IF you don't want to become a member that is OK. There are even online access to some of the things that the AARP does and it doesn't cost a penny.
Here is one that deals with AARP in OUR state (if you live in another state you can pick your state easily and see what is going on there).
And. IF you clicked on the above you also saw an article about York and AARP
