Trump actually gave a much better speech than I expected given that he supposedly wrote it himself. I am sure it was received very well by all of his supporters as it reflected pretty much what we have seen and heard from him from the start. That said, I believe many had hoped for something in the speech that would be unifying. Perhaps Mr Trump and his supporters THINK that it did happen, but from what I heard I don't think he hit the mark on that one. He was even critical of his own establishment party, the very one he will need support of (outside of executive action) to accomplish all of his lofty goals.
He again made a lot of promises especially to the little guy that he will have to follow through on. I DO hope that he succeeds in that area. There HAVE been a lot of people lost in the cracks as they say. I am not sure exactly what can or will be done to correct some of that in that it is not just a result of policy but just as much a result of progress and our national inability to address that (ie automation replacing people as one of the leads).
POTUS Trump also made a wild accusation that he would eliminate ISIS and radical Islam from the face of the earth. Good luck with that one.
Well, it is now for Mr Trump and his team to find their way forward and look for a way to heal a truly divided nation.
May they find their way !!

As far as I'm concerned, that was trump's last chance at reconciliation, and he isn't interested. He's happy to act as if he were not a minority's president,

I thought Trump's speech was totally lacking any language that supported or endorsed any sort of collaborative empathy. I seemed to me that his language did more to encourage an us against them mentality. Us against the rest of the world. Us against immigrants. Us against corporations. Us against Islam. Us against Washington, D.C. Those who voted for him against those who voted for others. Just what we need in this country right now . . . Divisive rhetoric.
Not exactly a call for unity from my perspective.
Hopefully the Bundesliga game will be on soon.
It's going to be an interesting 4 years.

Watching NBC and they're interviewing a couple from Pittsburgh is saying that they were happy that Trump said "God" in his speech because presidents never do that.
They were probably from Aliquippa.
Gotcha, Fred.

Good post. It was a pessimistic, joyless, threatening address.
Us v Them.
Perhaps the darkest, most menacing inaugural address in my lifetime.
When he talks about Americans he's not talking about me.
And with all of the saber rattling, I shudder for our people in uniform.
That address will inspire no American to do anything but pound their chest and hate others

A request for tanks to parade.
How you liking those Mussolini references now?

Let's hope they do find their way and this Presidency turns out much better than all the horrific predictions.
With the language and vitriol on both sides, it will be hard for the country to heal. Especially when all the politicians seem to care about is winning the next election.
