It wasn't Donald Trump Who Divided America

It wasn't Donald Trump who divided America

That was a rather defensive tweet sent by the president-elect this morning.
And, I agree. Donald trump did not divide America. That happened a while ago as we retreated into our bubbles, and started living, and getting our information separately. Traitorous carpetbaggers like Sean Hannity did their part. Both bases became more extreme.

Trump did not divide America.
Nope, he is just the ruthless corporate raider who callously exploited our divisions and colluded with another nation to seize power.

Pre-existihg divisions, extending back (at least) to A.D. 2000 Bush vs. Gore.

The division, in my opinion started going to crazy town under Bill Clinton.
In 2000 democrats got the opportunity to show that they could be just as outrageous.

Division goes WAY BACK before any of the above.

It is the dark underbelly of society.

True. I recall an excerpt from the excellent biography of George Herbert walker Bush.
When running for president in 1980 he was subjected to disdain from fellow republicans in Texas because of his east coast elite roots.
Bush returned from a Texas GOP meeting exasperated. He told Barbara, "You just can't talk to those people. They're crazy".

36 years later they are still crazy, but now mainstream as well.
