We have been told to "take a man at his word". It seems like that has been ingrained in us forever .......... "take a man at his word".
Ok, fine. I'm good with that. Makes sense. But, do we make exceptions for Donald Trump? I mean whenever he says or tweets something odd, offensive, or bizarre, there is a lineup of supporters, staffers, and promoters who are quick to tell us "he was only making a joke", "he didn't really mean that", or "this is what he really meant or believes".
Why does he need to be surrounded by people who have to clarify what he says?
So in the end, do we take this man at his word or not? It's a simple question.

I don't think you can take Trump's word for anything because his word changes with his mood. Having a president who allows his emotions override his reasoning and decision making could be a dangerous situation.

Good question.
Some do make exceptions for Donald Trump.
Heck, everytime the man says something that isn't true, or backs away from a promise, I'm told that "You take him literally", as if it some failing on my part to actually listen to the words he speaks.
It bothers me because the same people telling me this spent previous years lamenting "flipfloppers" and politicians who "just tell you what you want to hear"..
I will lay it out there;
I just don't get it.

I thought I heard a quote yesterday from Kellyanne Conway that said something to the effect of, "Don't listen to what Donald Trump says, but know what's in his heart."
I'm not sure what the heck that means, since I can't know what is in his heart, because I don't get to hang out with the guy.
So know, I don't take Trump at his word. But to be fair, I don't take any politician at their word. I promise you that if Hillary would have signed off on the TPP. Not saying that's a bad thing, per se, but rather plainly that she would have signed it.
I truly don't know what we're going to get from Trump. We could see a renewal of American economics and power, or within the next four years we could all die in a fiery nuclear hellscape.
The biggest reason I couldn't bring myself to vote for Trump was because throughout his campaign he never laid out what could be called concrete, believable policies that made any sense to me. Nothing has changed in that regard since he was elected.

Hey Lager, on the whole economic revival V nuclear hellscape thing what does your gut tell you?
3-1? Even money?
Trying to decide whether to prepay my mortgage or just blow it all on Russian hookers and Dom Perignon.

The man is a proverbial liar, racist, misogynist, bully and worse. Why would anyone believe a word he says?

The thing is, even the people closest to him must know some of the stuff he says is off-the-wall or they wouldn't feel the need to 'clarify' or explain the stuff he says. It happens almost immediately. Why not let the guy speak and tweet and let us decide what he means?

One of the most interesting questions of the past year or so;
If Trump says what he means, and means what he says,,,, why do his handlers have to spend so much time telling us what he really meant?

When the "word" changes from day to day it is hard to take anything.

I suspect the number of people in this world whose word is good could be counted on one hand.
