From my perspective, the demise and ultimate destruction of both the republican and the democratic parties would be a good thing for our representative republic.

Fair points, Brady.
I also wonder if the Democrats have a generational leadership problem.
Nancy Pelosi, 76.
Bernie Sanders, 75.
Joe Biden, 74.
Chuck Schumer is a youngster at 66.
Rising star Elizabeth Warren is 67.
Obama at 55, seems to have connected on a personal, if not policy level with voters.
Was his tender age a factor?
I agree, there is definitely a lack of new, younger Dems rising to political prominence In terms of PA politics, I can only think of Eugene DePasquale, he has done an excellent job as Auditor General and I could see him running for Governor or Senator in the future. Kathleen Kane was once considered to be that, but then her true nature came out. Kevin Schreiber, who was the local State Rep for the city and West Manchester Twp was young, smart, and energetic, however he just left politics to run the York County Economic Alliance. If he would have stayed in politics he could have had a bright future

Tom Corbett did an excellent job as the state's attorney general then was a miserable governor. I agree that DePasquale is terrific as state auditor but I fear what will happen if he too runs for the governorship. It seems like we're better off as a state if these great state employees remain in their jobs weeding out fraud and waste as Corbett did and as DePasquale is currently doing. Of course we would hope and expect our lackadaisical state legislature to act on their findings. Maybe too much to expect?
