Christmas 1944

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Many times the less you have of anything or the more you are away from it, the more you appreciate it !

During wartime and under those conditions that is so true. I have the Christmas card an uncle sent to  my grandmother from somewhere in France in 1944.  He was already dead from a sniper's bullet by the time the card reached her in Juniata Co.  The telegram from the War Department announcing his death arrived soon after the card did.  I also have her Gold Star. .
