What Does "Get Over It" Mean?

Since the election angry Trump supporters (Why are they angry? They won.,,,, Never mind) have been growling at me "Clinton lost. Get over it". And I just don't know what that means.

I've acknowledged that Trump won since the morning of November 9. I haven't engaged in all of the fantasizing about Electors going rogue. In fact, the only person on the exchange who seemed worked up about yesterday's electoral college vote is a Trump supporter.

I have engaged in a discussion and expressed my philosophical problem with the electoral college. I was told "She lost. get over it".
Yea, I know she lost. But that doesn't mean I cannot discuss the electoral college. 1. My opposition is decades old. And 2. Even if it wasn't, I'm not so stupid as to believe that we on the exchange can get the nation to abandon the college and install Clinton. I'm not crazy.

I have been alarmed that a foreign power tried to meddle in our election. I was told. "She lost. Get over it".
Yea, I know she lost. Does that somehow mean that I can't be concerned about foreign powers interfering in our political process?

I have been alarmed about the proliferation of fake news stories. I was told. "She lost. Get over it".
Yea, I know she lost. Does that mean I cannot show concern for the populace receiving accurate information about their world?

I have expressed disappointment in Trump's cabinet picks and his ideas about energy, immigration, the environment, and other things.
I was told. "She lost. Get over it".
Yea, I know she lost.
Was Trump selected king? Must I support everything he wants to do?
There is such a thing in a democracy as the loyal opposition. I am right, and doing right by advocating my points of view and in opposing the new president where I disagree.
This is not bizarre. It is not "unhinged", or being a sore loser. It is exercising my rights.

And, of course you angry Trumpers know this.
Remember in late 2008 when all you conservatives said, "Well, Obama won. We better get over it, and cheerfully support everything he wants to do"
Me neither.

I don't support the new President's agenda.
Get. Over. It.

No matter who is elected for what position ............ from president to dog catcher and everything in between, in a democratic society the populace needs to be engaged in the process.

I voted for Obama, for example, but I didn't support everything he did or wanted to do, TPP and healthcare insurance come to mind.  Our responsibility as citizens in a society of, by, and for the people means just that.  We have a responsibility to stay engaged regardless who is elected.  We can't simply sit back and let the person who got elected do whatever he or she wants because they're a member of our team without letting our voices be heard.  We're not a bunch of sheep (although many politicians would probably like that).

What bothers me about Mr. Trump is that he keeps talking about 'his' supporters.  That's fine during the campaign, but when elected, he needs to remember he will become president of all the people, not just the ones who voted for him.

Perhaps someday Trump will understand that now he has to run a UNITED states. So far he is just doing a self-aggrandizing tour to pat himself on the back. A lot of his supporters seem to be in the same boat. It will make for a failed Presidency unless he can turn the corner.

Re: What Does "Get Over It" Mean?

I don't think I've ever told anyone to get over Hillary's loss to Trump, but my general philosophy in life to always move forward.

Yes, you learn from your mistakes. You acknowledge history. In the consulting biz, when something goes wrong, you do a root cause analysis.

But at the end of the day, what's done is done and going back and kvetching about it at some point grows tiresome, but even more, doesn't accomplish anything.

I'm no hard core partisan, but in general, between our two major parties, I believe Dem party ideals are more in alignment with my own.

I believe in a strong social safety net.
I believe in a strong line of demarcation between religion and government.
I believe in common sense gun legislation
I believe in science, and evolution.
I believe in free markets

That said, between butt-hurt progressives and what I have seen from some Trump supporters as well as how I believe Trump will govern (very authoritarian), I am starting to come around to some aspects of the conservative idea that the government that governs least, governs best.

The bottom line is to stop Trump, the Democrats are going to have to start talking about big ideas that cross rural and urban boundaries, class, and race. Look at the congressional leadership on the Dem side? They are both old and coastal.

The makeup of my legislators on a township, county, state, and federal level are nearly 100% Republican. I have one Dem U.S. Senator and one Dem County Commissioner.

In my county, there are more registered Democrats then Republicans.  Yet, my township supervisors are all republicans. My state house rep and state senator are republicans. My new congressman, a republican.

In my voting precinct, Trump beat Clinton by 10 points. In my township, Trump beat Clinton by 12 points. In my country, Clinton did win, but by less that 1 percentage point.

The Democrats need to get younger. They need to build a bench of candidates at the local level. They need to restate their core economic beliefs and how they can help people across the country. They need to re-institute Howard Dean's fifty state strategy and fight for every seat and all levels of government.

If they don't do this, all the complaining about the day to day news cycle stuff won't amount to a hill of beans.

Wow, they're like Penn State....win, there's a riot, lose there's riot.

What, exactly, does it take to make someone happy?

If you make yourself miserable trying to make others happy that means everyone is miserable.

What does 'get over it' mean? It means pull your little girl panties out of your crack and give the President-elect a chance.  There's been more bitching and moaning about what this President elect has 'done' before he even takes office and done anything, than there ever has before.  Give Trump a chance, maybe he'll be good? No need to condemn him before he's done anything.

I hear what you're saying Man, but I mean the way you're talking  it's like you weren't even around after Obama got elected in 2008.

Of course I was, and I voted for Obama in 2008.  I said the same exact thing to Obama haters back then.
