Property tax/rent rebate program deadline nears
The deadline to apply for the 2015 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is Dec. 31.Eligible participants can receive an income-based rebate of up to $650 for rent or property taxes that were paid in 2015. Available supplemental rebates can boost rebates for qualifying homeowners to $975.The program is open to residents who are 65 years or old, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with disabilities.
The income limits are $35,000 annually for homeowners and $15,000 a year for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded.Applications and no-cost assistance are available from York County state representatives' district offices.Applicants are required to provide all necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process claims.
Claimants who already applied for their rebates may check the status of claims online at www.revenue.pa.gov or by calling, toll-free, 1-888-PATAXES.
