Now What?

FBI concludes investigation. Recomends no charges against Clinton.

Is it too late to arrange another set of Benghazi hearings?

Re: Now What?

Actually, the way it was left it certainly has left enough "red meat" for Trump and the talking heads to use till election day.

Trump, however, in his usual loose lip comments in essence called the investigation "rigged" and in essence said the FBI decision is rigged. Anyone suggesting that our highest law agent gave a "rigged" decision is really stating a case for anarchy. Expect others unfortunately to follow suit. Politics really sucks.

Re: Now What?

For the life of me, I don't know how someone who, per the FBI director's own words, was "extremely careless" with sensitive national information, and who, again in the FBI director's own words, would have been sanctioned had she been anyone other than Hillary Clinton, can still be considered qualified for President of the United States.

Is Hillary a better option than Donald Trump? Of course. But it's stuff like this; basically a career politician with a load of friends in high places and an untouchable stature that creates candidates like Donald Trump.

In 2016, we have scraped the bottom of the barrel in terms of presidential nominees. I have zero enthusiasm for this election and frankly, think we're screwed either way we go.

I feel the same way, Lager. I keep looking over at the Johnson/Weld ticket and I really feel like I can't find anything really heinous about them, but...they're the Libertarians, man. I've been there before and it was weird.

Yeah, I hear ya. The problem is that I'm so unnerved by a Trump presidency that I am not going to chance it by throwing a vote at Johnson in a state like Pennsylvania which could turn the election to whomever wins it.

I will hold my nose, wash down half a bottle of bourbon, curse the state of our democracy and likely vote for Hillary.

Re: Now What?

I agree. In my 50 years of being eligible to vote, this presidential election considering the two major parties have provided us with two flawed candidate and I wish we could do better. The choice between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum is unprecedented in my lifetime. It will be the first time that my vote will be based solely upon which candidate will do the least harm rather than the most good. Unless we soon change the entire electoral cycle, overturn Citizens United, compress the primary process, control the campaign rhetoric, get money out of politics, and reduce the stranglehold and influence of the two major parties, I fear for our representative republic.

Re: Now What?

Man, you guys are bringing me down.
I will be voting for Clinton. Even sending her money.
I would have rather voted for joe Biden, or perhaps Deval Patrick, but it just was not in the cards.

The two likely nominees, well I get what you are saying. The problem is, they got the most votes.
Until the people change, what hope is there? I understand the anger. But, on the GOP side anger turned into madness.

Re: Now What?

I finally read the entire statement that Comey made. I am finding that the press in general glosses over and winds up stating misleading info in their reporting. Of course we no longer have a press that really digs through information in a rush to report.

That said, it was a big event and was covered on all the major networks (naturally) and will be part of the 24 hour news cycle.

The good news is that everyone can read the entire statement for themselves.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/05/politics/fbi-statement-email-server-hillary-clinton-james-comey/index.html

Assuming that the Libertarians cannot mount a real threat (and that is just my assumption), then we have to (as has been bantied about here) decide the better of the two flawed candidates. Perhaps then the deciding factor has to be the positions that they espouse as well as your opinion of their running mate.

At a personal level, I just cannot imagine a Trump Presidency in any fashion being good for the US and unless something drastic changes I will be voting for Hillary.

Re: Now What?

It was a damning report, and I can understand why a voter may feel that this tips the balance against her. Clinton owns that, and she has no one to blame but herself.

We find ourselves at a dangerous crossroads of history whereby Donald Trump may just blunder and bluster himself into the White House. This would be a disaster.

Re: Now What?

Morning Joe had a good "side by side" video comparison of Hillary speaking about the e-mail/private server issue to the press last year and Director Comey's findings yesterday. It's pretty damning as it shows that what Hillary was telling the nation was very far from the truth.

I suppose at this point we're all just supposed to shrug our shoulders and say, "Oh well."

I'll probably be wrong with this prediction, but in 2000 voter turn out for Bush v. Gore was 50.4%. I think we'll see a lower turnout this year.
