Boy, 5, playing with gun shoots, kills younger brother

Boy, 5, playing with gun shoots, kills younger brother, 4

Authorities say a 5-year-old boy playing with a gun accidentally shot and killed his 4-year-old brother after shooting him in the head in their home.

A spokeswoman for the city of East Orange, New Jersey, says the shooting occurred on Saturday. The severely wounded child was being treated at a hospital, but doctors could not save him.

The spokeswoman said the gun belonged to the boy's mother.

The 5-year-old, who was originally identified as a 6-year-old, was playing with his mother's gun at about 11 a.m. in a home on Norman Street when he accidentally shot his brother in the head, city spokeswoman Connie Jackson said Saturday. Their mother, Itaniyah Spruill, 22, was home at the time.

Police arrested Spruill on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and a weapons violation in connection with the death. She was being held Sunday in Essex County Jail on $310,000 bail. An arraignment is pending.

Authorities have not revealed how the 5-year-old got a hold of the gun.

What kind of irresponsible jackass leaves a loaded, deadly weapon where a child can get their hands on it?

Tell me again about your rights.  Then tell me about your responsibility.

Not all people are responsible.
Not everyone should own a gun.
But go tell a gun nut that

It really burns my butt when people rant about their rights but never get around to addressing the responsibility.

The saddest part of the story is that the kid will have to spend the rest of his life with the memory of that horrendous act. The parents deserve to have to live with that irresponsible act.

Another 'responsible, law abiding, gun owner' story with a dreadful ending:

Teen Accidentally Shot Dead in Front of Siblings By Their Father at Gun Range

A Fourth of July weekend family trip to the gun range turned tragic for Florida teen, whose father accidentally shot him dead while his two siblings stood by.

Stephen Brumby was with brother and sister at High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota on Sunday when an errant spent shell casing struck their father, William Brumby, and somehow landed in his shirt.

"Brumby then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing. While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidently fired," the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The round struck Stephen. who was rushed to an area hospital, but he could not be saved.

Brumby's 24-year-old brother and 12-year-old sister were present at the time of accident but not injured.

No details were released about the incident, including the type of gun involved.

Police said there are no plans to charge William Brumby with a crime.

The shooting happened at a gun range in Sarasota called High Noon, whose website features the slogan "A safer, greener, quieter, cooler gun range."

Safer, greener, quieter and cooler gun range ? ! ? !        Not any more.

Wait a second, Ron.
You mean, gun accidents can happen to kids whose mothers aren't drug addicted prostitutes, petty criminals, or some other racist stereotype?

Don't tell Jeerhead. He knows what he knows, and you shouldn't confuse him with facts.

I've had to remove two posts from this thread.

I understand this is an emotional topic but please take a few deep breaths before replying.

Thanks
