Re: Shooting at Orlando Nightclub Kills About 20, Police Say

Maybe the derisive anger should be directed towards our do-nothing, money grubbing, beholding to special interests rather than the overall good of the citizens, elected legislators to be more proactive in looking at ways to be partners in looking for solutions to these violent acts. In order to do so, from my perspective, the issue of the sales and proliferation of weapons to individuals in this country needs to be addressed rather than dismissed as some constitutionally protected, God given right.

How can we logically deny the right to vote, or be employed in certain jobs, or fly, and restrict other rights or privileges to certain individuals, but at the same time allow them to legally purchase deadly weapons? And we do this solely based upon the monetary pressure and unrestricted demands of small minority group.

We need to require action by our legislators, not after-the-fact condolences, sorrow, and promises, without the solid resolve to take preventative action.

I very much agree with you.

It always gets up my nose how people will loudly proclaim their right to own lethal weapons but carefully overlook the responsibility that comes with it.

People treat guns the same way they treat their f****** car keys or their cell phones, treat them like toys, treat them like fashion statements, treat them like political statements, treat them like everything but  a device designed to kill people.

Re: Shooting at Orlando Nightclub Kills About 20, Police Say

I'm so pissed I can't see straight.  I'm ready to jettison the entire Second Amendment and start over.  Some guy walks into a nightclub and shoots 103 people and some yahoo tells me needs an assault weapon to protect his family?  Listen, pal, how about if some member of your freakin' family was in that nightclub, movie theater, shopping mall, church, school, concert, or wherever else.  Maybe you shouldn't let any member of your family out in public, sit in your basement all day and stroke your AR-15.

I'm done with this.  I really am.

Sorry for the rant.  Carry on.

I don't understand the AR-15 reference.  An AR-15 is not an assault rifle.  It's a semi-auto rifle, like lots of other rifles and hand guns.

Perhaps Islam should stop teaching hatred toward those who don't think like they do? Maybe that is the answer?

Maybe ALL religions should.

Maybe, but especially the one religion whose followers commit terrorism in the name of their religion, Islam.

IMHO there is no "maybe" about it.

Agreed.

The moon is at first quarter.

So far, the Moslem "holy month" of Ramadan has been celebrated by burning a couple dozen Yazidi girls alive in a cage in Pakistan because the refused sex with their Moslem captors; the mass shooting in Tel Aviv; and, of course, the Orlando massacre.

Most Christians are familiar with the fasting season of Lent and many practice fasting to some degree during those days.   But those days are also intended as a charitable and giving time, a time for giving a hand up to one's neighbor, a time for concentrating on correcting one's own sins rather than pointing out and condemning the sins of others.

That's quite a contrast.

The moon is at first quarter.

Three weeks to go.

Lord have mercy.

The AR-15 "reference" is quite easy to understand, if one wishes to.
Rather than obfuscating the issue with a detour into semantics about whether the AR-15 is an assault rifle, assault weapon, or semi auto,,,,,, let's discuss the issue.

Early reports are that an AR-15 was used in this terrorist attack. Versions of the AR-15 were also used in the San Bernadino terrorist attack, the Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic terrorist attack, the Chattanooga  shooting (AK-47 style semi-auto), and in the Sandy Hook & Aurora madman attacks. Just a wild guess, but I bet that the terrorists in the Paris attacks did NOT use a Colt Peacemaker.

The AR-15 and other semi-automatic rifles, unlike a muzzle loading musket, or bolt action rifle, enable one to fire dozens of rounds per minute. Basically, one can fire as rapidly as one can pull a trigger. This feature makes the AR an ideal weapon, not for hunting (unless one expects to harvest 12 deer at a time), or even home defense,  but for mowing down dozens of people in a very short period of time. The AR-15 is a weapon suited for war. It was, in fact, developed to be used by the army.

Some people think that such weapons should be denied to criminals, those with extremist ideology, or ties to terrorist groups. Some think that the weapons should be removed from the civilian market altogether.

And I know this. If I am in a restaurant and a terrorist attacks - whatever his motive might be - I'd rather he be armed with a pike than an AR-15.
The reason should  be obvious. If it is not, then I can only conclude that one's judgment has been clouded by political considerations.

I don't know how to remove the hate from the hearts of lunatics, or extremists of any creed. But we can hunt them down, and we can limit the firepower that they have access to.

What would others do? I see some condemnations of Islam here.
Is there some sort of plan at the end of that, or is it just generalized condemnation?

Any practical ideas on getting people to stop preaching hatred?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
