The Bears made it to the Calder cup finals this year. Go Bears!
Hershey Bears drop Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals
HERSHEY - For a while there, the Hershey Bears, skating on their biggest stage in six years, were simply staring into a mirror.A swift opponent backboned by strong goaltending and a fast-paced style met them shot for shot, hit for hit. Through two periods at Giant Center, Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals belonged to no one.But when the Bears returned for the third, their reflection seemed to grow, as their own play shrank.
And by the end, the mirror was gone. Hershey was instead staring at history repeated.Lake Erie's Daniel Zaar netted two goals and the Monsters scored four unanswered to take a 4-1 victory Wednesday in Game 1 of the AHL's championship series. Hershey winger Jakub Vrana produced the lone Bears goal in the first period, before Zaar tied the game in the second and helped put the chocolate and white away during the third."We thought there were a lot of similarities, quite frankly.
They've got some good speed, some good skill and they push the pace," Hershey coach Troy Mann said. "From a defensive perspective, we can certainly do better. I think we've got to get back to pucks quicker and move a little quicker ... because they are on us."Trent Vogelhuber and Markus Hannikainen also scored for Lake Erie, which feasted on Bears turnovers throughout the latter periods. Hershey trailed 1-0 in each of its first two postseason series this spring, eventually coming back to defeat Portland and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. back at Giant Center."We've bounced back well. I think we can use that," Bears defenseman Aaron Ness said. "It's a positive thing we can look at and bring into Game 2. We're just going to make adjustments and go from there."
