Are there any more people D.T. could offend?
Speaking in Salt Lake City — home to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ headquarters — Donald J. Trump questioned Mitt Romney’s membership in the faith on Friday, asking a crowd at a rally, “Are you sure he’s a Mormon?”
Mr. Romney, who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012, comes from a prominent Mormon family, and he remains popular in Utah, which has a sizable Mormon population.
After first praising Mormons generally — “And do I love the Mormons, O.K.?” Mr. Trump said. “Do I love the Mormons?” — Mr. Trump added that he has many friends in Salt Lake City. But he noted pointedly that Mr. Romney, who has been urging Republicans to deny him the presidential nomination, is not one of them.
“Did he choke? Did this guy choke? He’s a choke artist,” Mr. Trump said, referring to Mr. Romney’s loss to President Obama in 2012. Mr. Trump added, “Are you sure he’s a Mormon? Are we sure?”

From my perspective, the only person Drumpf holds a high opinion of is himself.
I don't think he even has a great deal of respect for the people that show up at a rally to support him, or the primary voters that write his name on the ballot, or the political figures that endorse him. I believe he only sees these people as tools that he will use as a means to an end that he now covets.
The big problem with that scenario is that, if he reaches his desired end, then what will he do? I don't believe he has the slightest concept of the scale and scope of the job of president of the U.S. Thus far he has demonstrated that he lacks the personal skills to properly interact with others to collaborate, cooperate, and compromise to move legislation despite the fact that he touts himself as the world's greatest negotiator and deal maker. He is a legend in his own mind.

He's the most despicable public figure in my memory.

Trump has to keep doing stuff like this, he has no actual policy that will solve any of the issues.
If he would let the debate become about ideas and solutions, he would be in trouble. Instead he has to make the discussion revolve around outrageous statements he makes that might resonate with a small segment of society

I might agree, Brady, but I ask you, why is he the face of the Republican Party right now?

He is not the "face" of the Republican party. The majority of Republicans do not want him to be the nominee and it appears there is a good chance he will not get the delegates needed to be the nominee on the first ballot at the convention.
If he was the face of the party, was if the party trying to everything they can to make sure he is not the nominee and face of the party.
He has a solid base of support of 35% to 40% of people who are tired of Washington and he is talking about economic issues that resonate with people who have been "ignored" by Washington for a long time.

If that is the case, then why is he leading among Republican voters and winning the majority of Republican primaries?

He may be winning the majority of the states, but he is not getting the majority of Republican voters. Majority means over 50%, and he isn't getting that. He is getting generally between 35 and 40% of the vote.
Since only 35 to 40% are voting for him, that is why I am saying the majority of Republicans don't want him to be the nominee. Generally by now the leading nominee starts getting over 50% of the vote, even if more than 2 people are left in the field.

I guess we shall see. Actually, I'm a bit stunned he got this far.
