Komplex Koch

David Koch, scourge of those on the left and everyone who hates the way the U.S. does campaign finance, signed a friend of the court brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn gay marriage bans.......

Libertarian philanthropist David Koch is backing a federal challenge to same sex marriage bans, signing on to a Supreme Court brief urging the court to overturn state-level prohibitions on the practice.

He will join hundreds of other prominent right-of-center thinkers, activists, and public figures in asking the Supreme Court to prohibit states from outlawing the practice under the 14th Amendment.

Koch, the vice president of Koch Industries and the world’s sixth wealthiest person, is a deep-pocketed donor to Republican and conservative groups.

Koch Industries general counsel Mark Holden confirmed on Tuesday that Koch will sign his name to the brief. Holden said he did so in his personal capacity.

“I believe in gay marriage,” he told Politico in 2012. A former vice presidential candidate on the Libertarian Party ticket, Koch is in line with that movement’s thinking on the issue, despite his support for a party that frequently opposes gay marriage.

“I think the Republican Party has a great chance of being successful and that’s why I support it … but I believe in the libertarian principles,” he told Politico.

Question - What makes David Koch a Libertarian?

Re: Komplex Koch

Looks like Dave is still looking out for his own interests.  Doesn't give a rat's carcass about social issues just so he can cash in.  It will be interesting to see which congressmen he owns change their positions on gay marriage and let the Foxy News wonks fall in line.

If the Supreme Cout\rt is paying attention, they'll fall in line, too.  Messing with the Koch Brothers isn't smart for politico wannabes.

Maybe I missed it, but where is he "cashing in" on supporting gay marriage?

They probably own the companies that make wedding decorations. Cha-ching!

In seriousness, I'm guessing he meant "cashing in" as in pandering for votes. Or I could be wrong, but that's how I took it.

Re: Komplex Koch

My first thoughts on reading this was..--what benefit does he get from this?  They don't seem to do anything unless they profit from it.

Re: Komplex Koch

David Koch's support for allowing gay marriage actually goes back to 2012. If he is a true Libertarian it would be a logical consequence of Libertarian thinking.

BYOB got pretty close to my feelings about it.  More and more people (voters) are accepting gay marriage as a civil right, and the Koch's aren't that interested in social issues.  I'm guessing by voicing their opinion on the issue makes them look good to a wider audience, and thus the puppets they own in congress will fall in line expanding their appeal to more voters.
