Ok, ban those things.  I'm good with that.

Then you open up the black market.  People building their own, transporting over national borders and selling on the streets.  But hey, banning marijuana worked out well, no one buys it or uses it, so why not? ;)

Of course, other western Democracies manage to control weapons, and have lower firearm death rates.
But we, the self described greatest nation on earth, just can't do what they do in other places.
Sad.

All nations are different.  If gun bans worked, Chicago would be the safest place in America.

It doesn't work in Chicago because guns pour in from states with lax gun laws. There's no moat around the city.
We have to address this on the federal level.

Other nations don't have magic. It's a question of will.

And if guns are federally banned, guns would pour in over the Mexican border, don't you think? The same way we get most illegal drugs.

No, some guy is going to build a wall.

But seriously, Please explain, why is it impossible for us to do what others nations can do?

Nothing is impossible, but I'd say impractical.  For instance, Australia has an almost total gun ban.  Australia also does not border other nations where it would be easy to transport guns into the country and create a black market.  The U.S. has two very large borders with two different countries, and it's not difficult at all for someone with the will to traffic banned items into the country.

Re: Philadelphia: Gunman pumps 13 shots into police car

Australia has 16,000  miles of coastline. With tens of thousands of places where a ship with black market cargo might make landfall.

All nations have borders.
Not all nations have our gun problem.
Something else is afoot.

Coastline is not as easy to illegally import over as a land border, plus population and demographics also come into play.  What do you think is afoot?

Will.
We don't want to control who can obtain a gun.
