Paris attacks: ISIS claims responsibility for gunfire, blasts that killed 128 people
Paris (CNN)ISIS claimed responsibility for a series of attacks that targeted six locations in Paris with gunfire and explosions, killing 128 people in one of the nation's deadliest massacres.
In an online statement distributed by supporters, the terror group said eight militants wearing explosive belts and armed with machine guns attacked precisely selected targets in the French capital.
In addition to the fatalities, 180 others were injured, according to the Paris Police Prefecture. More than half of the injured are in critical condition.
Gunmen hit Friday night when bars and restaurants were bustling with residents and tourists.
Excited weekend chatter turned into panicked screams as gunfire erupted at various sites.
One of the targets was near a soccer match as France played world champion Germany. Terrified fans huddled together and streamed onto the field after the blasts . Others hugged.
At the Bataclan, a concert hall where most of the fatalities occurred, fans were listening to American rock band Eagles of Death Metal when the shots rang out.
"People yelled, screamed," said Julien Pearce, who was there. "It lasted for 10 minutes. Ten horrific minutes where everybody was on the floor covering their head."
President Francois Hollande vowed to hunt down the terrorists, and blamed the attack on ISIS, calling it "an act of war" by the militants.. He said it was planned from the outside -- "with inside complicity."

How do we fight ISIS? It's not like we can attack a country. If Denmark or Spain attacked France or Germany, then we understand how conventional war works. This is new territory. How do you fight someone who is willing to blow themselves up and commit suicide?

Actually, ISIS does control territory in Syria and Iraq.

It requires a coalition that is joined and led by middle eastern Islamic countries supported by western allies.

Those arab states aren't going to get it done.

If the Arab states don't "get it done", then I submit their countries will succumb to ISIS.
Without their concentrated efforts against these terror organizations, a mission to defeat Islamic extremists solely by western nations will not succeed.

Just saying that I have zero confidence that the Arab states will overcome their historic tribal enmity, their corruption, and dysfunction and come together to destroy this monster.

What I do not understand is we see all the videos of ISIS on our tv news all the time. If the news organizations can find ISIS groups with little trouble so it seems why cannot militaries of the world go in and eliminate these same groups? It does not appear to be much action or determination to eliminate ISIS by anyone.

Without some kind of real coalition, not that half-assed thing we had going into Iraq a decade ago, I don't see a positive outcome. And, yes, it must include Islamic and Arab nations.
