Mitt's Out

Mitt Romney announced today that he will not make another run at the Presidency in 2016.

Why do you believe that he made this decision?

And who is the big winner in the remaining republican field?

Not, who you want to win, but who you think will benefit most.

Re: Mitt's Out

Jeb Bush stands to gain the most....another governor, moderate/centrist.

Jeb is OK.  He doesn't carry the baggage that Romney does...there was no "Bushcare" prototype for Obamacare.

But he isn't my choice.

Re: Mitt's Out

While not a Mitt supporter in general, I think he's a decent man from what I know of him. The only reason I can think of that he would drop out is the possible agony of defeat for a third time. It just wouldn't look or feel good. That being said, the current polls show him with the R lead out of who is running so far, so I have no idea why you would drop out if your numbers are the best. Out of all the R contenders so far, he would have been my pick if I leaned R. To me, he's the least crazy, therefore the most reliable. (I guess Jeb would also fall into that category, but I don't really want a third Bush.)

Re: Mitt's Out

I'm not sure how Mitt can be "out" when he was never really in.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump

Re: Mitt's Out

Oh Mitt had his toe in the water, at least.
I think that Tarnation, and the conventional wisdom are correct in that Jeb is the most likely beneficiary.
Each niche has only just so much room. So, Jeb and Christie now have the "establishment candidate" niche to themselves.

As far as baggage, Correct, Bush does not have the Romneycare thing hanging over his head.

But Bush does have Common core, which is a huge issue with the base.
