Nearly 1 Million Obamacare Customers Received Wrong Tax Information

Nearly 1 Million Obamacare Customers Received Wrong Tax Information From GovernmentFrom CBS DC:WASHINGTON — About 800,000 HealthCare.gov customers got the wrong tax information from the government, the Obama administration said Friday, and officials are asking those affected to delay filing their 2014 returns. The tax mistake is a self-inflicted injury that comes on the heels of what President Barack Obama had touted as a successful enrollment season, with about 11.4 million people signed up.California, which is running its own insurance market, on Thursday announced a similar problem affecting about 100,000 people in that state. The errors mean that nearly 1 million people may have to wait longer to get their income tax refunds this year. And they could also affect the size of those refunds.Another 50,000 or so who already filed may have to resubmit their returns.Federal officials also announced Friday a special sign-up extension for uninsured people facing the health care law’s tax penalties for the first time this year.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

The implementation of the ACA has surely been a black eye for the administration.

Big change many times results in big screwups !

The bottom line, however, appears like the ACA is here to stay. All the rest seems to be just political theatrics.

Agree on the first part. Disagree on the second.

Sending out incorrect tax forms has real life consequences, from just being an inconvenience, all the way to causing someone to file their taxes incorrectly and getting into a protracted battle with the IRS.

We deserve some basic competance from our federal government and throughout the implementation of the ACA, despite its noble goals, we haven't seen it.

Agreed, it IS a real life consequence. Let's see when the dust settles just how many people had to re-file. The numbers reported so far that had filed before this came out was pretty small (50K) in relationship to the total number of people that were potentially impacted. Let's also wait and hear about how difficult it is to fix for those who have already filed.

Small problem, yes. But they got to get this right.

So fix it.  Let's not get our knickers knotted.  Personally I can't think of a change of this magnitude that didn't have blips and problems to iron out.

Bummer. It's a good thing I didn't file my taxes yet. Finally! Procrastination pays off!

On a serious note, 3 people I know have recently gotten insurance by going through the ACA portal and have saved money and got the same plan they previously had last year. 1 of them went from $650 a month to $360 a month, and the other 2 are a married couple who went from $870 a month to $400 a month. The relief that I heard in their voices makes every glitch worth it.

I think incompetence like that is the new normal.  It is everywhere, not just in government, but business and other places too.  People who are doing the work are distracted, overwhelmed, stressed or just don't care.  We are losing our work ethic.
