Polls and "News"

Note to Fred. This is NOT a slam of Bernie Sanders. This is a slam of polls being used to manufacture news.

Both the Boston Herald and the Fox News site scream this headline:

Poll: Bernie Sanders surges ahead of Hillary Clinton in N.H., 44-37
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has rocketed past longtime front-runner Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, a stunning turn in a race once considered a lock for the former secretary of state, a new Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll shows.

Sanders leads Clinton 44-37 percent among likely Democratic primary voters, the first time the heavily favored Clinton has trailed in the 2016 primary campaign

What's the problem?
Read on and you will find that the poll was of 442 people.
That's about a hundred fewer people than my high school graduation class.

To look at the raw numbers, Bernie got 194 votes. Clinton got 163 votes.

Can we really use this to predict anything?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Polls and "News"

I would dismiss any poll that surveys 400 people unless it was about who is favored to be prom queen in a senior class of 4 or 5 hundred people.
