Is this the state legislature or junior high school?

You've got to be kidding me!

'Hidden' cameras outside a senator's office spark debate in Capitol
Updated: By: Marc Stempka
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Two apparently hidden cameras outside of a state senator’s office in the Capitol building are raising concern among some people inside the building. Two cameras have been placed outside Sen. Scott Wagner's office to keep watch of a sign, according to Wagner's Chief of Staff Jason High. The sign depicts Gov. Tom Wolf as the Kool-Aid character. The cameras were requested by Wagner following reported vandalism of signs in the Capitol, High told CBS 21 investigative reporter Matt Rist. "We had issues with our signs being bend, moved, they put them up to try to catch the culprit," High said. High said the cameras, which are inside end tables with fire extinguishers on top, were placed there by Senate officials. He said the video is recorded into computer services at the Capitol and is not accessed unless there is an issue. Both cameras were placed there at no cost, with one having a smashed screen, according to High. The sign is in protest of Wolf's state budget, and specifically targeting Wolf and the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). The sign reads the image of Wolf saying "Stop thinking and keep on drinking," above "PSEA Members Receive an Unlimited Supply of Juice!" Some in the Capitol have been raised concerns about the angles of the cameras watching the sign. Other staffers said they were not concerned about the cameras because, "We know we are being watched." Wagner is a Republican from York County.

Let's see now . . . These bozos in our state legislature are weeks late in passing a budget, have all sorts of problems dealing with real issues like property taxes, failing infrastructure, unfunded pension programs, etc., and they're busy playing sophomoric games surveiling mocked up KoolAid posters that demean the opposition ? ! ? !
Stop playing political games and do your jobs, you clowns!!!!
We need to make these elected legislative posisitions part time, term limited, no pension, minimum pay jobs. What a bunch of jerks!!!!!!!!!

This doesn't surprise me, especially with Wagner being involved.  He's a Trump Lite.  His antics and outbursts are dragging his position and office down into the mud.

The story itself answered the question you raised !

So they have time to watch the ridiculous sign but can't get a budget passed. Why am I not surprised ?

As I've posted many times before:

Scott Wagner = the best government waste money can buy.

Punctuate and emphasize as you choose.

Re: Is this the state legislature or junior high school?

If both sides, the legislature and the governor, can't negotiate and work together, I'm all for the government being shut down as long as needed.  Both sides need to realize that they aren't going to get everything that they want.  Simply vetoing proposals outright without presenting a reasonable alternative is no way to govern, and no, jacking up taxes on the middle class, all classes, at your whim is not a reasonable alternative.  We don't need or want that, and so far I would predict Tom Wolf will be a one-term governor if his work ethic and ability to understand what the people want doesn't improve.  He can't just ignore our representatives, the people who we elected to do our bidding in Harrisburg.

That said, the childish bullshit on BOTH sides needs to stop, from Tom Wolf's people buying TV ads slamming the legislature's budget proposal like he is still in campaign mode, to Scott Wagner putting up a sign of Tom Wolf as the Kool-Aid Man.  We don't need or want any of that.

Politicians at all levels of government behave like particularly spoiled children.

A classroom full of ADHD kindergardeners is better behaved.

Re: Is this the state legislature or junior high school?

Here's Scott Wagner's answer to my letter to him concerning the need to work together to pass legislation that is important to operating the state government, budget negotiations, and other issues considered to be important to the citizens of the Commonwealth. I also mentioned the sophomoric antics regarding the cameras outside his office.

"Thank you for contacting me regarding my recent budget update and the cameras placed outside of my office.

With respect to your comment that the legislative and executive branches should work together – I couldn’t agree more.  Unfortunately, as I noted in my e-news update, which you quoted, the Governor is out campaigning across the state, and he is sending campaign-style mailers to our constituents touting his budget.  Senate Republicans have indicated to the Governor that we are open to alternative solutions, but we can’t make that happen if he isn’t willing to veer from his proposal and come back to Harrisburg to reach a compromise with us.

As for the cameras, they were installed over a month ago, long before the most recent poster was put on display.  The primary concern was that my name plate was being knocked off the door and onto the floor.  The large posters I put out each day were a secondary concern.  Of course, as is always the case, the media spins the story as they wish, and the focus has been that I simply want to keep watch on the posters.

Thank you again for taking the time to write and to share your thoughts.  I appreciate hearing your views.

Sincerely,

Scott R. Wagner
Senator, 28th District, York County"

While I used to think that some of Mr.Wagner's ideas on certain issues were a step in the right direction, and that he was going to be an impartial representative to complete tasks, it has become more clear, as time goes by, that he has become a partisan political denizen of Harrisburg. His inability to take responsibility for his personal actions, or inactions, speaks much louder than his words.

Mr. Wagner blames the gridlock on the budget solely on the fact that the governor/opposition party does not agree with the package passed by his party. He seems to forget that, for our representative republic government to work, it depends on collaboration, cooperation, and compromise by differing points of view. Just blaming "the other side" gets us nothing but gridlock . . . a stigma in Harrisburg he campaigned on working to break down. He has either given up, or given in to the status quo.

From my perspective, it doesn't make it right that the cameras were placed outside his office not because of someone defacing his idiotic posters denigrating an opposing party figure, but due to the fact that someone was apparently knocking his nameplate off his door. That makes it worse . . . Again, is this junior high? Maybe it's even more juvenile . . . Like back to kindergarten. And he blames it on the press for reporting these childish antics.

Re: Is this the state legislature or junior high school?

It's cool that he got back to you, but wow, I don't even think it's legal to put up a hidden camera just to watch your office door in your work place.  Just super-glue the stupid name plate to the door and be done with it, if that is truly his concern.  Regardless, it is extremely childish and a waste of time, of which our legislators seem to actually work very little as it is.  You get paid a big time salary and benefits to work a part-time job.  The least you can do is take it seriously.

I will agree with him though that the governor needs to compromise as well as the legislature.  By vetoing the entire budget, rather than line-item vetoing, the governor seems to be sending the message that it's his way or the highway, he will not compromise.  We didn't vote for that, and if that's how he is going to be, he should find another line of work.

Is it possible to use a line-item veto, or is the whole thing a mess in the gov's eyes?

Secondly, compromise is not always possible in certain situations.  For example:   If I propose you should jump across a 10 foot cavern and you don't think it's a good idea, should you compromise and say, "Ok, I'll compromise and jump 5 feet"?
