I suspect a significant number of people would agree with you.

Which begs the question; why do we keep trying?  I mean apart from the oil interests.


If you make yourself miserable trying to make others happy that means everyone is miserable.

Good question, CT.  How do we make the Shiites and Sunnis be friends with eachother?  Maybe they need a common enemy.  That's where we come in.

Recent history kind of tells us that even though they dislike Westerners, their real problem is with each others culture.

In the last major conflict (Iran/Iraq) the UN actually helped broker resolution (United Nations Security Council resolution 598) that led to the end of the fighting that by some extimates had up to 1 million casualities. 

Is there a place for the UN in the current mess in the Middle East ?
