No demonstrable evidence

Trump's Proposed After-School Cuts Could Lead to More Hungry Kids, Lower Test Scores

Greenville, Mississippi—In March, President Trump revealed his "skinny budget," a rough sketch of the nascent administration's fiscal priorities and objectives that included deep cuts to education and nutrition programs. Budget chief Mick Mulvaney defended the move. "[The programs] are supposed to help kids who don't get fed at home so they do better in school," Mulvaney said at a press conference on the day of the announcement.
"Guess what? There's no demonstrable evidence they're actually doing that. There's no demonstrable evidence they're actually helping results, helping kids do better in school."

OK, so, you don't want to spend $1.2 billion without demonstrable evidence that it will help.
Fair enough.

But, If demonstrable evidence is now the new standard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
well,,

We've been fighting in Afghanistan for nearly 16 years and have not defeated the Taliban.

A study estimates that we've spend about $2 TRILLION on Afghanistan, and have not defeated the Taliban.*

2,300+ US soldiers killed and over 20,000 wounded, and we have not defeated the Taliban.

Two "surges" under Obama, and we have not defeated the Taliban.

So, where is the demonstrable evidence that yet another surge will work?

Here we are in 2017.
We won't spend money on poor kids because there is no demonstrable evidence that it works.
We won't spend money on climate change despite the fact that there is demonstrable evidence that it exists.
But we will continue to spend money and spill blood in Afghanistan in the face of demonstrable evidence that it is a waste.

Lord what fools these mortals be.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: No demonstrable evidence

Human history is littered with nations who, instead of tending to the needs of the people they serve, focus on building a bigger and bigger more powerful military.  Most of them rotted from the inside.
