Memos signed by DHS secretary describe sweeping new guidelines for deporting illegal immigrants

Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly has signed sweeping new guidelines that empower federal authorities to more aggressively detain and deport illegal immigrants inside the United States and at the border. In a pair of memos, Kelly offered more detail on plans for the agency to hire thousands of additional enforcement agents, expand the pool of immigrants who are prioritized for removal, speed up deportation hearings and enlist local law enforcement to help make arrests.

The new directives would supersede nearly all of those issued under previous administrations, Kelly said, including measures from President Barack Obama aimed at focusing deportations exclusively on hardened criminals and those with terrorist ties.“The surge of immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States,” Kelly stated in the guidelines.

He cited a surge of 10,000 to 15,000 additional apprehensions per month at the southern U.S. border between 2015 and 2016. A White House official said the memos were drafts and that they are under review by the White House Counsel’s Office, which is seeking some changes. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the process is not complete, declined to offer specifics.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

So, you think that mass arrests are American?
Please explain why

Indeed it is.

I wonder what it is with the Trumpers. Do they really think that immigrants are responsible for their lot in life?

Probably.  Gotta blame somebody.  There's a book entitled, "I'm Not My Fault".  Should be required reading.

Re: Memos signed by DHS secretary describe sweeping new guidelines

Reading the Post's article, I don't see a whole lot of difference between what Kelly is looking to do and what occurred under the Obama administration.

Remember, immigrant right's groups were very critical of President Obama for deporting millions of immigrants during his time in office.

So the new plan seems to be add some additional border patrol agents, make the immigration courts more efficient, and add some vague language around the types of immigrants that could be deported.

With most police departments stretched thin as it is, I don't see a lot of them signing up for the additional duties of ICE officials.

To Kelly's credit, it seems like this first draft leaves the "Dreamers" alone.

The bottom line for me is that I can't see how much stronger the Trump admin can make deportations processes than what we had during the Obama years.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump

It's interesting that the White House clarifiers were quick to point out that the documents Kelly's office submitted were merely drafts and would be subject to modification by dear leader before any plans would be put into action.
