Where Have We Heard This Before?

President Trump praised members of the military, lauding the “perfectly executed” air strikes against the Syrian government a day after the American-led attacks.

“Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result,” Trump tweeted. “Mission Accomplished!”

His words echoed those associated with President George W. Bush, who spoke with sailors aboard a ship in May 2003 beneath a banner, also reading “Mission Accomplished!” The remarks came just six weeks after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, though the war dragged out for years afterward.

The celebratory phrase implies the end of conflict, though it remains unclear if future military action in Syria will occur.

Re: Where Have We Heard This Before?

Bombing Syria feels good, even cathartic.
But, catharsis isn't the goal of foreign policy.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.
