NJ Deputy Mayor Compares Immigrants to Rabid Raccoons

Deputy Mayor Rick Blood resigned Monday, after sharing a racist Facebook post that compared imigrants to raccoons.

The deputy mayor of former governor of New Jersey Chris Christie's hometown resigned after he likened immigrants to rabid raccoons in a Facebook post.

Republican Rick Blood stepped down late Monday as deputy mayor of Mendham Township.

Controversy ensued after he compared immigrants to “hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons.”

He used the analogy in an attempt to explain President Trump’s appeal.

“You’ve been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and your basement is infested with raccoons. Hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement. You want them gone immediately,” he wrote.

He likened President Trump to the “one guy” who “guarantees you to get rid of them.”

“You don’t care if the guy smells, you don’t care if the guy swears, you don’t care if he’s an alcoholic, you don’t care how many times he’s been married, you don't care if he voted for Obama...you simply want those raccoons gone!” the post continued.

“Here’s why we want Trump, yes he’s a bit of an ass, yes he’s an egomaniac, but we don’t care,” Blood wrote.

“This country is weak, bankrupt, our enemies are making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegals, we are becoming a nation of victims where every Tom, Ricardo, and Hasid is a special group with special rights to a point where we don’t even recognize the country we were born and raised in...and Trump is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want,” Blood continued.

Blood deleted the post Sunday and issued an apology.

He said at the beginning of a Township Committee meeting that he had no plans to resign after making a “bonehead” decision to post the rant.

The body’s lone Democrat, Amalia Duarte, urged the committee to discuss the issue in a closed session in response to uproar from the community.

Duarte defeated Blood in the 2017 election.

“I think we need to listen to the public,” Duarte said. “Let’s take action tonight.”

The committee returned from the meeting and Mayor Richard P. Diegnan Jr. announced Blood’s resignation.

Mendham Township’s population is 85% white.

Just 1% of its residents are black, and roughly 12% of its residents are foreign born, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The township’s administrative assistant, Melanie Politi confirmed Blood’s resignation.

“The township is in receipt of the mayor’s resignation and beyond that we don’t have any comment,” she said Tuesday.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

The racists are literally everywhere. We live in a time of rising racial tension emboldened by our own leader (IF you want to call him that).
