Dr. Buffett

Jimmy Buffett gave the commencement speech at the university of Miami last week. He was also given an honorary doctorate by the university. Jimmy gave the speech dressed in a cap and gown and a pair of flip flops. Before you discount Buffett as some buffoon singer, you should know he is in the Nashville songwriter hall of fame, Grammy nominee, albums that routinely go gold or platinum, accomplished novelist, has one of the most successful live tours year after year, owner of Margaritaville restaurants, casinos, clothing, food & beverage labels, has his own Sirius/XM satellite radio station, and has an estimated net worth of $400 million. I admit that I am a Parrothead . . . Have been for years, since I first saw him at Captain Tony's bar in Key West back in the 70's. We've been to several of his concerts over the years, and have been lucky enough to meet him and several Coral Reefers backstage at concerts. So, here's a brief synopsis of Dr. Buffett's commencement advice to the Miami grads:

Jimmy gives commencement address to University of Miami graduates

Even for someone who never seems to have the same day twice, this is a special occasion. Jimmy was honored to give the 2015 Undergraduate commencement address at the University of Miami today. Here he is working on his speech. Who hasn't wondered what words of wisdom and advice Jimmy would offer?

The Jimmy Buffett Checklist from the University of Miami class of 2015 commencement ceremony.

1. Everything in moderation.
2. If you can make your avocation your vocation - your life can be blissful.
3. It is time to see the world.
4. Be Santa Claus when you can.
"Trust the Universe and Fins Up!" - Doctor of Music, Jimmy Buffett.

The University of Miami presented Jimmy with an honorary Doctorate of Music!

When we lived in the Carribean, I can't count the amount of times the coconut telegraph buzzed with the news that Buffet was on island and was going to stop at a local bar and sing a few songs. That never came to fruition, but we sailed over to Anguilla to Banky Banks Dune Preserve to see the concert Buffett did to raise money for the preserve. Did you know that Buffett gives a dollar from every ticket sold to his charitable foundation that supports many environmental projects? The guy has lived his life the way he wanted, and, despite some stumbles, has been extremely successful. And that seems OK to me.

Geeez . . . I wasn't even aware that Warren dropped a CD!

If he did, would it be rock, rap, or reggae?
