Frost in May? It's possible next week in Central Pa.

A good reason to stick with the rule no tender plants out until Mother's Day! If you have tender plants out now beware.

Things could be chilly in Central Pennsylvania over the next few days. And it's possible some areas will even see frost, according to a Hazardous Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service."Abnormally cold air for early May will bring the threat of freezing temperatures or frost to much of the region Monday and Tuesday mornings," the advisory warns.
Right now, the National Weather Service is predicting a low of 39 degrees on Sunday night and 40 degrees on Monday night. It doesn't need to be freezing for frost to form, according to the National Weather Service.

According to a frost formation study, "temperatures from 38 to 42 F can lead to patchy frost, 33 to 37 areas of frost, and 32 and below widespread frost/freeze."Even if the region doesn't see frost, the forecast is unusually cold. The normal low temperature for Harrisburg in early May is about 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Re: Frost in May? It's possible next week in Central Pa.

Living in one of the "normally colder valleys" I have learned NEVER to plant frost sensitive plants like tomatoes before Memorial Day.

An Mother's Day weekend (or thereabouts) is pretty common in my neck of the woods.

With the warm winter and warm spring the plants have to be VERY confused !
